Letter to SPC Customers
As SPC’s VP of Digital Innovation, I’m amazed every day. I get to see our employees working hard to develop the SPC product and create new partnerships and innovations that promise to make SPC even better.
Over the last few months the SPC team has had the privilege to meet and talk to students at high schools, colleges and universities in Canada and the USA to learn how SPC fits into their lives. As we finished our 25th anniversary this year, I marvel at the incredible journey we have had and we’re on. And we’re just getting started.
What to expect from SPC this year
In the past several months, we made some big strides: we moved our platform to the cloud, we made major updates to our IOS App, Android App and our Website. We launched new partnerships with over 100+ retailers both online and in-store and continued our advancements in technology solutions to get more deals our students want.
What’s next? You can look forward to several innovations that we’ll release throughout 2018. We’ll make it even easier for partners and brands to provide more deals and give students better tools to find the deals they want. Saving you more money!
this year, we’re focusing on three key ideas:
1. Exclusive
We’re extending our product to get you more deals and discounts on the things you need everyday. SPC is about to get a lot more powerful. It’ll still be the SPC you already know and love, but you’ll be blown away when you see what it will give you everyday. Right now, you use SPC as an ongoing provider of constant discounts while you shop – however this discount stays the same all year round. The new SPC will give you more real-time deals based on where you are and what you do. This means standard 10% off discounts will now be up to 20%, 30% and even 50% off both in-store and online. Not to mention we will not wait till August 1st to give you deals, as soon as we can we will get you it!
2. Engage
Did you know that SPC students raise over $90,000 for their High Schools every year? We’re lucky to have a vibrant student user community within Canada that love and help promote SPC everyday. We’re grateful that we get to learn from all of you, and we love the feedback you provide. Speaking of feedback, I want you to know that we’ve heard you, and you can look forward to seeing even more enhancements to the features you know and love. You’ll also see non-stop improvements to the SPC experience, especially related to searching and finding deals before and while you shop —more to come.
3. Explore
You’ve told us that it’s important to you to have more ways to find deals on the products you need and want. So we’re looking at ways to improve exploration. For example, we’re expanding SPC’s search capabilities. We’ve already added over 4,500 search parameters and are working with with technologies that help us customize your search results daily. We want it to be as easy as possible to find a deal on the product you want no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
We’re also interested in discovering how to help you get deals without having to do all the work of finding them yourself. For example, we think you should be able to get deals on what you need without even having to search for it. That’s why we’re exploring advanced technologies that’ll allow deals to be tagged and filtered automatically to suit your needs.
We think that could happen this year.
Staying true to our mission
As I mentioned at the beginning, people are using SPC now to save on more products then ever before. Every day, you tell us some truly astounding stories about new ways that you’re using our partners products. It’s humbling to see how our product impacts millions of people’s lives all over Canada.
SPC’s promise for the future
SPC’s Mission to make student life better and the innovations you’ll see from us in 2018 do more than simply support that mission. They are also evolving SPC as it becomes even more essential for the way you interact with technology our partners while you shop and live.
I’m excited about what’s coming in 2018. And I’m grateful for your support along the way. We think you’ll love it.
